Is an echocardiogram safe for my child?
Yes. An echocardiogram is an ultrasound scan — it uses harmless sound waves, not radiation, and there is no pain or known risk. The probe is simply placed on the chest with a little gel, exactly like the scans done during pregnancy. It takes around 15–30 minutes and your child can eat, play and go to school normally before and after.
